Donor Screening: Science, Integrity, and Care

At Premier Sperm Bank, every donor undergoes one of the most comprehensive screening programs in the industry, designed to ensure the highest standards of regulatory compliance and genetic health.

We only accept Identity Disclosure donors and we only accept new donations from those who are at least 21 years old for the well-being of donors and donor-conceived children.

Ultimately, fewer than 2% of all applicants qualify to become a donor with us — representing only the healthiest and most qualified individuals who demonstrate exceptional semen quality, supporting optimal pregnancy outcomes.

Our Comprehensive Screening Process

The donor screening and testing process is rigorous and multilayered. It includes:

Medical History Review

Comprehensive review of donor's personal, lifestyle, and family medical history.

Semen Analysis & DFI Testing

Detailed semen analysis and Sperm DNA Fragmentation Index testing for superior quality.

Genetic Testing

Advanced genetic testing of more than 500 genes plus chromosomal analysis (karyotype).

Genetic Counseling

Consultation with a board-certified genetic counselor to review results.

Psychological Evaluation

Comprehensive psychological and personality evaluation conducted by a licensed psychologist.

Background Verification

Criminal and educational background checks ensuring accuracy beyond self-reported information.

Infectious Disease Testing and Ongoing Screening

All donors are screened for infectious diseases as required by the FDA. This includes testing for:

HIV, Hepatitis B and C, HTLV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and West Nile Virus.

Donors undergo a full physical examination at the time of their initial screening and every six months throughout their active donation period. Additionally, health screenings are completed at each donation visit to ensure continued eligibility.

Six-Month Quarantine for Added Safety

Before any sperm sample is released for use, it undergoes an FDA-mandated six-month quarantine period. During this time, frozen samples remain securely stored until the donor returns for repeat infectious disease testing.
